Lake Albano & Castel Gandolfo
Only 40 minutes away by car, Castel Gandolfo is the Pope’s summer palace located on the stunning volcanic Albano lake. Go for a swim in the clear waters of the majestic lake, rent pedal boats, lounge on the beach. Enjoy a delicious lunch overlooking the majestic crystal blue waters and visit the Pope’s summer garden or enjoy a stroll through the very charming town of Castel Gandolfo. Santa Severa
40 minutes by car, Santa Severa is a real gem. Located on the clear, clean-blue zone water north of Rome, enjoy a fabulous seafood lunch of spaghetti al vongole overlooking the castle. Let the kids catch crabs on the rocks, go for a swim, look for shells, or visit the castle for a bit of culture.
Calcata
This medieval town located on rocks that jut out of the earth, Calcata is a rare and special place to visit. A hippie town with a very colourful past, it has a number of super cozy restaurants, eclectic shops, wonderful views, a historical museum, and is less than hour away.
Ostia Antica
Many people don’t know that Rome is the home to it’s very own smaller Pompeii. Only 40 minutes from Villa Hygge, Ostia Antica is a truly impressive example of a port town in the Roman days- With an amphitheatre, shops, homes, mosaics and audio guides, you really get a feel for life in those Roman times. It’s a super visit for families to get some culture and there are great restaurants nearby that will let you dress up as a gladiator, which is fun for all.
